In order to prevent unintended user actions from being misrecognized as valid gestures, this gesture input device (1), which controls a control subject device (3) on the basis of user gestures, is equipped with: a determination gesture assessment unit (32) that assesses whether a determination gesture is included in the gestures detected from an image photographed with a camera (2); an operation gesture assessment unit (34) that assesses whether an operation gesture is included in the gestures detected from the image photographed with the camera (2); and a device control unit (23), which generates controls signals corresponding to operation gestures that have been assessed by the operation gesture assessment unit as being included during a determination gesture recognition period, and which transmits the generated control signals to the control subject device (3).
