A subunit (200) is provided for a motor control center (100) including an enclosure (102), a number of compartments (108), a plurality of power lines (110), and a number of covers (112) for covering the compartments (108). The subunit (200) includes a housing (202) removably disposed within a corresponding one of the compartments (108), a plurality of electrical contacts (224,226,228) movably coupled to the housing (202), and an actuating assembly (230) for moving the electrical contacts (224,226,228) into and out of electrical contact with the power lines (110). The subunit (200) further includes at least one of a locking assembly (300), a panel assembly (400), and a secondary disconnect assembly (500). The locking assembly (300) locks the position of the electrical contacts (224,226,228) and restricts access to the actuating assembly (230). The panel assembly (400) is pivotable and translatable with respect to the subunit housing (202). The secondary disconnect assembly (500) is independent from the actuating assembly (230) in order that movement of the electrical contacts (224,226,228) does not move the secondary disconnect assembly (500).
