A light diffusion member is provided with a light transmissive substrate, a plurality of light diffusion parts, a connecting part, and a light-absorbing layer. The plurality of light diffusion parts are each arranged on a surface of the substrate and have a light-entry end surface that is disposed on the side opposite the substrate side and that has a larger surface area than the surface area of a light-exit end surface. The connecting part connects at least two adjacent light diffusion parts out of the plurality of light diffusion parts, and is disposed in the vicinity of the light-entry end surfaces. The light-absorbing layer is formed on a region different from the region where the light diffusion parts are formed on a surface of the substrate. The dimension from the light-entry end surface to the light-exit end surface of the light diffusion units is larger than the thickness of the light-absorbing layer.
