<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface coated cutting tool including a coating film having abrasion resistance, chipping resistance and adhesiveness, on a surface. <P>SOLUTION: The surface coating cutting tool includes a base material and the coating film formed thereon. The coating film includes a laminate formed by alternately laminating two or more layers A made of Al<SB POS="POST">a</SB>Ti<SB POS="POST">b</SB>M<SB POS="POST">c</SB>N<SB POS="POST">d</SB>O<SB POS="POST">e</SB>and layers B made of Al<SB POS="POST">f</SB>Cr<SB POS="POST">g</SB>Me<SB POS="POST">h</SB>N<SB POS="POST">d</SB>O<SB POS="POST">e</SB>, where M and Me independently represent one or more kinds of elements selected from a group consisting of V, Zr, Nb, Mo, Hf, Ta, W and Si. A region in the range of 10 to 50% of a total thickness of the coating film in the thickness direction of the coating film from its surface serves as an oxygen containing region which contains oxygen.
