TELL TALE OVER CLUSTER LIGHT GUIDE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems that the number of tell tales and available space are limited to a surface area of an instrument gauge, and placement of light sources and required light housings further complicates manufacture and limits placement in an instrument panel.

SOLUTION: A gauge 12 provides information indicative of vehicle speed and includes a pointer 22 that moves relatively to a scale to indicate a current parameter of a measured vehicle. A tell tale housing 24 is supported above the gauge 12 face and placed apart from a face of the gauge 12. A main circuit board 30 supports light emitting devices such as an LED 32 that are turned on or off to illuminate the corresponding tell tale 26. A light guide 36 is supported within the tell tale housing 24 and directs light from the LED 32 to at least one tell tale 26 placed apart from the main circuit board 30 and the face of the main gauge 12.
