<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cushioning member which can protect a horizontal merchandise such as a horizontally-long electronic component such as a toner cartridge of a copying machine from an external impact when the merchandise is stored and transported in the state of being housed in a cardboard box, which has an inexpensive structure, which minimizes the number of cushioning members, and which enables sure packing of the merchandise. <P>SOLUTION: Each of the pair of cushioning members 5 for use in the storage of the horizontal merchandise into the cardboard box can be made at a lower cost than one corrugated cardboard. The pair of cushioning members 5 is disposed in the state of facing each other on right and left sides in a length direction in the cardboard box, and a square frame portion 6 is provided in a central area. Both length-direction end parts of the merchandise are held by an opening of the square frame portion 6, and the merchandise is held in the state of being suspended in air in the cardboard box by a pair of leg side parts and a pair of arm side parts, which are provided in the square frame portion 6.
