The device (1) has elastomeric sealing rings (4, 5) provided around a body (2) of a cable or a pipe (3). Push plates and/or press flanges (7) made from hard plastic apply pressing forces on the sealing rings so as to cause axial compressing and radial expanding of the sealing rings. The sealing rings are manufactured by an inner layer construction, a two-layer construction or a sandwich structure, where the sealing rings are made from materials having different degrees of hardness.
