<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an accurate detection of paper width even when there is a preprint part on a medium. <P>SOLUTION: Attribute information showing if preprint paper is on the assumption of print is obtained to determine the print on the preprint paper. The medium width is detected by scanning the medium once in one direction of a carriage when printing on the preprint paper. While, one end part position is detected by scanning once in an outward direction of the carriage and the other end part position is detected by scanning once in a subsequent homeward direction of the carriage, to detect the medium width based on the end part position of the both sides when printing on the preprint paper. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
