<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a copolymer that can provide a rubber composition and a pneumatic tire in which low fuel consumption and wet grip performance are improved in good balance. <P>SOLUTION: The copolymer is obtained by copolymerizing 1,3-butadiene and a compound represented by general formula (I), wherein at least one terminal of the copolymer is modified with a modifier having a functional group including at least one atom selected from the group consisting of nitrogen, oxygen and silicon, and the weight-average molecular weight Mw of the copolymer is 1.0×10<SP POS="POST">5</SP>to 2.5×10<SP POS="POST">6</SP>.
