<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing synthetic quartz glass considering refractive index distribution remaining in the synthetic quartz glass, a tool for producing synthetic quartz glass used in the production method and the synthetic quartz glass for an optical member produced by the production method. <P>SOLUTION: In the synthetic quartz glass production, the tool for producing the synthetic quartz glass used to vertically apply a load to a porous quartz glass preform includes: a base where the axis of the porous quartz glass preform is vertical and the porous quartz glass preform is placed; and a pressurizing member which is movably supported in a vertical direction by a guide member standing on the base and which sandwiches the porous quartz glass preform with the base. The pressurizing member is in contact with the porous quartz glass preform, descends vertically following the shrinkage of the porous quartz glass preform heated to a temperature not lower than the vitrification temperature and then applies the load vertically to the porous quartz glass preform by its own weight. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
