<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing optical fibers that can achieve the decrease of production cost. <P>SOLUTION: This method for manufacturing optical fibers comprises: a preparation step for preparing a glass preform 2, which has multiple holes extending along the longitudinal axis, and for which the ratio between the diameter of the holes and the outer diameter of the glass preform 2 is defined as a first ratio; and a drawing step by heating and melting one end of the glass preform 2 while applying pressure inside the multiple holes of the glass preform 2, and drawing an optical fiber 1 having multiple holes extending along the longitudinal axis. If the ratio of the diameter of at least one of the holes in the optical fiber 1 to the outer diameter of the optical fiber is defined as a second ratio, the optical fiber 1 is drawn after adjusting the pressure inside at least the one hole in the glass preform 2 in such a manner that the ratio of the second ratio to the first ratio decreases to less than 1.0. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
