A record-card-controlled machine comprises means for feeding a plurality of packs of record cards past a plurality of reading stations, simultaneously each having means for reading data from the cards, a single means for printing the data, and switch means operable in synchronism with the feeding means to connect the printing means to the reading means at each of the several stations in succession. Two packs of cards 4, 3, Fig. 1, are fed through two sets of known sensing apparatus in parallel paths and the data sensed is employed to control printing means to print the data, e.g. addresses, on to two forms or paper tapes 5, 6 simultaneously. The paper tapes 5 and 6, Fig. 2, are fed by independent sets of pin wheels 11, 13, one above the other as shown. The tape 5 is folded as shown in Fig. 3 so that printing is carried out on the two portions 9, 10 only, while printing is carried out on the portions 7, 8 of tape 6 only, thus producing, after splitting, four forms 7, 8, 9, 10 as shown in Fig. 3a. The card feed is controlled by a clutch of known type shown in Figs. 4 and 6. Shaft 17 which is continuously rotating drives notched bushing 18. When magnet 88 is energized its armature 20 is attracted, thus freeing pawl 21 which, being drawn by its spring 22 falls into the notch of bushing 18. The pawl is then driven by the bushing so that part 23 on which the pawl 21 is mounted revolves in synchronism with shaft 17. The rotation of part 23 causes rotation of gear 24 which is fixed rigidly to it. The latter transmits its movement to feed rolls 25 through gears 26, 27 and 28.
