PURPOSE: An optical sensor and a sensing method using the same are provided to eliminate errors caused by a difference of the reflected measurement light amount according to a surface color of an object, thereby accurately calculating a distance between the objects or a position of the objects within a sensing area. CONSTITUTION: An optical sensor comprises a lighting unit(200), a color photographing device(300), a photography controlling unit(400), a memory unit(500), a measurement light image extractor(600), a distance calculating unit(700), and a color correcting unit(800). The lighting unit projects measurement lights to a sensing domain. The color photographing device senses lights being irradiated from the sensing domain, thereby obtaining color images within the sensing domain. The photography controlling unit controls light emitting time emitting the measurement lights of the lighting unit and photographing time of the color photographing device. The memory unit stores color images photographed by the color photographing element or result images pre-processed the color images. The distance calculating unit calculates a distance between the measurement light image being extracted by the measurement light image extractor and the object or position information. The color correcting unit calculates a corrected distance of the object or corrected position information by adding up the distance or position information calculated by the distance calculating unit and values corrected by using color information of the object photographed by the color photographing device.
