<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for detecting a body running alongside with improved accuracy of detecting the position of the running body. <P>SOLUTION: An apparatus 1 for detecting a body running alongside includes a calculator 50 that aligns images in a detection area captured on the rear sides of a vehicle V by a camera 10 at different times on a birds-eye view, and detects a ground line as a boundary between the body running alongside and the ground on the basis of difference image data between the aligned image data captured at different times. The calculator 50 sets a plurality of lines substantially parallel to a moving direction of the vehicle V with respect to the difference image data, in different positions. As for the difference image data on the far side of the vehicle V in each of the set substantially parallel lines, pixels indicating a predetermined difference are counted to form a frequency distribution along a direction in which the running body falls when the image in the detection area is converted into a birds-eye view, to generate a plurality of difference waveforms and detect a ground line of the running body on the basis of a change in shape of the generated difference waveforms. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
