A method of producing silage comprises covering a heap of fodder with at least two coverings each consisting of overlapping strips of flexible and airtight material, a material such as earth, turf sods or farm manure capable of converting oxygen into carbon dioxide being provided between the coverings. The outer covering is finally covered with a layer of earth. The heap of material may be built up on a backing of synthetic resin material or other flexible and airtight material lying on the ground. |
