<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease the ink consumption amount and the paper dirt amount in a discharge recovery processing of a recording head that has a link part. <P>SOLUTION: In-image preliminary ejection is performed by use of nozzles used to record an image out of the nozzles included in the overlapping link part, and between-image preliminary ejection is performed by use of nozzles which are not used to record the image.
