<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic cleaning device for a base conveying roller which can automatically clean a base conveying roller at a cleaning and development unit, and thereby, save trouble and labor involved in a cleaning operation, then, put into practice a cleaning operation in a short time, and prevent a loss due to long-term operation suspension of the cleaning and development device when the conveying roller is cleaned. <P>SOLUTION: This cleaning and development unit A includes the conveying roller 40 which horizontally conveys a base material p placed horizontally, to a cleaning treatment means B and a development treatment means C inside a cleaning and development chamber 1. In addition, the unit A includes a detection means which predetermines the conveying roller which has no base material p placed and conveyed. Further, when the predetermined conveying roller is rotating or its rotation is suspended. a cleaning fluid d is jetted to the predetermined conveying roller by an exclusive cleaning nozzle 31 arranged standing face to face with the conveying roller 40 above the latter inside the cleaning and development chamber 1.
