<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction agitation joining tool excelling in oxidation resistance and plastic deformation resistance. <P>SOLUTION: The friction agitation joining tool used for friction agitation joining work includes a base material that includes a hard phase and a binder phase. The hard phase includes WC particles and/or a compound (excluding WC) containing one or more kinds of metal selected from a group consisting of Ti, Zr, Hr, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo and W and one or more kinds of elements selected from a group consisting of nitrogen, carbon, boron and oxygen, or a solid solution of the compound.
