<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polymer having a heteromethyl-group substitution-reactive silyl group in an industrially advantageous manner. <P>SOLUTION: The polymer (H) has a reactive silicon-containing group represented by general formula (6):-CHR<SP POS="POST">13</SP>CR<SP POS="POST">13</SP><SB POS="POST">2</SB>-SiR<SP POS="POST">2</SP><SB POS="POST">c</SB>(CR<SP POS="POST">1</SP><SB POS="POST">3-b</SB>Y<SB POS="POST">b</SB>)<SB POS="POST">a</SB>Z<SB POS="POST">3-a-c</SB>. The polymer (H) is produced by reacting a halohydrosilane compound (A) represented by general formula (1): H-SiR<SP POS="POST">2</SP><SB POS="POST">c</SB>(CR<SP POS="POST">1</SP><SB POS="POST">3-b</SB>Y<SB POS="POST">b</SB>)<SB POS="POST">a</SB>X<SB POS="POST">3-a-c</SB>with a polymer (I) having an unsaturated group represented by general formula (7): -CR<SP POS="POST">13</SP>=CR<SP POS="POST">13</SP><SB POS="POST">2</SB>.
