<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transceiver that can provide information about an internal state for an upper layer with little delay. <P>SOLUTION: An optical transceiver 10 is connected with an external upper layer 100. The optical transceiver comprises a microcomputer 14 and a logic device 12. The microcomputer monitors multiple internal states of the optical transceiver. The microcomputer includes an MDIO (Management Data Input/Output) register for storing multiple pieces of data indicating the multiple internal states. The logic device is connected with the upper layer via a MDIO bus, and is connected with the microcomputer via a communication bus.
