The temperature (Ta) of exhaust gas which enters into the pressure wave supercharger (2) is stored in the engine control unit, based on the thermal model. The presumed exhaust gas temperature is matched with the maximum engine control limit temperature. When the presumed exhaust gas temperature falls below the maximum threshold temperature, the heating power demand is determined. Several measures are taken to increase the exhaust gas temperature such that the assumed exhaust gas temperature is no longer below the maximum limiting temperature.
