<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting element which can reduce malfunction caused by crystallization of a chemical compound contained in a layer provided between electrodes. <P>SOLUTION: A light-emitting element comprises a layer containing an aromatic hydrocarbon and a metal oxide between electrodes 101, 102. The aromatic hydrocarbon is not particularly limited but preferable to have hole mobility of 1×10<SP POS="POST">-6</SP>cm<SP POS="POST">2</SP>/Vs and over. Such aromatic hydrocarbons include 2-tert-butyl-9,10-di(2-naphthyl)anthracene, anthracene, 9,10-diphenylanthracene, tetracene, rubrene, perylene, 2,5,8,11-tetra(tert-butyl)perylene and the like, for example. The metal oxide is preferable to indicate electron acceptance to the aromatic hydrocarbon.
