<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a tracking performance. <P>SOLUTION: Search image data indicating an object field captured by an imager 16 is fetched to a search image area 32c of an SDRAM 32 by a memory control circuit 30. A CPU 26 searches a face image whose degree of coincidence with a dictionary image housed in a face dictionary DC_F exceeds a threshold from the search image data stored in the search image area 32c, specifies a feature image on the detected face image as a tracking object, and tracks the specified tracking object by referring to the search image data. The tracking time is controlled so as to be longer as the degree of coincidence with the dictionary image of the detected face image is higher.
