A method and a system for providing location registration of a GSM terminal in an MSC boundary area are provided to improve a success rate of the location registration during handoff of the GSM terminal and reduce handoff time by using no SMDPP(Short Message Delivery Point to Point) protocol for an unnecessary authentication process while the GSM terminal performs handoff between the terminal and an MSC within a CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access) network. A second MSC(Mobile Switching Center) receives an REG invoke message for MIN(Mobile Identification Number) location registration from a GSM(Global System for Mobile communication)(S200). The second MSC confirms whether a handoff identifier is included in the REG Invoke message(S202). If so, MIM information of the GSM terminal is confirmed and the MIN location registration is requested to a home GLR(Gateway Location Register)(S204). The home GLR confirms the MIN of the GSM terminal, and requests deletion of the GSM terminal information to a first MSC by confirming a mobile communication terminal information table(S208). The home GLR receiving a deletion complete message for the GSM terminal information from the first MSC obtains an IMSI(International Mobile Station Identification) corresponding to the MIN of the GSM terminal by searching the mobile communication terminal information table, and requests IMSI location registration to the GSM GLR(S212). The home GLR receiving an IMSI location registration allow message for the GSM terminal from the GSM GLR requests transmission, reception and supplementary service usage information of the GSM terminal to the GSM GLR and receives requested information(S214). Based on the received information, the home GLR updates the mobile communication terminal information table(S216). The home GLR reports GSM terminal location registration completion to the second MSC(S218). |
