[Also in Group XXI] A mount for a camera 18 and a sighting device 20 comprises C-shaped arms 15, 16 which are mounted at their lower ends on a column 13 for rotation about a vertical axis 14, a carrier for the camera and sighting device which is pivoted at the upper ends of the C-shaped arms at a pivot 19 which in use lies behind the operator's head, and-two handles 23, 29 rigidly fixed to the carrier so that an operator can effect directly azimuthal and elevational movements of the carrier. The arms 15, 16 are adjustable about an axis 17 so that at the most usual angle of elevation the vertical axis 14 passes through the centre of the operator's neck. The column 13 may be raised or lowered in member 11 by turning a handle. The handle 29 extends towards the right side of the operator and is provided with an arm clasp for the right forearm. The camera 18 is slidable on rails which are secured to the arms 21, so that the camera unit may be properly balanced about the pivot 19. The sighting means 20, which may be binocular, is adjustable on the supporting arms 21 so that initially it may be set parallel to the camera, by sighting some distant object. To this end the camera may be provided with a retractable periscope so that the image formed on the receiving surface may be viewed. The camera may be of the automatic type and a camera switch may be provided near the operator's right hand.</p> |
