PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling an internal combustion engine in a drive train of an automobile with a transmission having at least one clutch automatically put into action.

SOLUTION: In the method for controlling an internal combustion engine (12) in a drive train (10) of an automobile with a transmission (14) having at least one clutch K1, K2 automatically put into action, a revolution speed nMot of the internal combustion engine (12) is regulated to a target value n_ziel set after a transmission gear ratio has been varied while the transmission gear ratio of the transmission (14) is being varied, and a torque basic value MB to be imparted by the internal combustion engine in order to attain the target value n_ziel is formed as a function of torque loss recognized to be corrected by regulation intervention. In the method, in forming the basic value MB, a contribution M(J, dn) of the torque loss required for a change in internal combustion engine (12) torque generated during a change in the transmission gear ratio is taken into consideration. The one independent claim provides a control unit set to perform this method.
