A filter device 10 for trapping embolic debris comprises a bag which is deployed by everting it from an end 22 of a delivery catheter 20. Inversion can be obtained by retracting the catheter, advancing a pusher member 24, or a combination of the two. After release from the catheter, which may be with the assistance of the pusher member 24, the open end of the bag self-expands against the walls of a body lumen 30. The catheter 20 can then be completely removed from the lumen. After use, the device 10 is withdrawn into catheter 20 by pulling on a wire 16 attached to the closed end of the bag (see figure 5) to again evert the device. Alternatively, there may be a loop 42 on the bag which is pulled by a wire 46 with a hook 48 back into the catheter (see figures 7) or the filter may not be everted again (see figure 8). The bag may be made of Nitinol or resilient material, and may be braided. It may be releasably attachable to the catheter. |
