PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting apparatus capable of increasing illuminance in a prescribed range without increasing a cost. SOLUTION: The lighting apparatus is provided with a long apparatus main body 1 with different length of vertical and horizontal length which is formed by abutting each opening face of a body 10 of nearly rectangular parallelepiped made of an insulating material and with the lower face open and a cover 11 of nearly rectangular parallelepiped made of a translucent material and with the upper side open, a coupler 2 on which an electrodeless discharge lamp 2a being a light source 3 is detachably installed, and a lighting device 3 to supply a high frequency power to an induction coil (not shown here) to light the electrodeless discharge lamp 2 through the coupler 2. A plurality of long translucent members 7 of which the longitudinal direction is parallel to the width direction of the apparatus main body 1 and which refract or totally reflect the light from the electrodeless discharge lamp 2a are provided at the lower face of the cover 11.
