771,901. Boring and milling-machines. DECKEL, H., and DECKEL, F. W. Feb. 8, 1955 [Feb. 22, 1954], No. 3713/55. Class 83 (3). A horizontal boring and/or milling-machine comprises a work-table 116 adjustable in two mutually-perpendicular directions and a number of sectors 60, 60a, 64, 64a to tilt the table. The table 116 is rotatably supported, under the control of an indexing-device 124, 126, in a bearing 110 on a cross-slide 46 carried on a saddle 38. Hand-wheels 40, 48 provide manual adjustment of the saddle and cross-slide, and a lever 42 controls movement of the saddle 38 by power means housed in a gear-box 14 which supports a headstock 20 for vertical adjustment on guides 12 on a column 10. Handwheels 18, 24 and power-control levers 16, 22 provide for vertical adjustment of the gearbox 14 and horizontal adjustment of the headstock respectively. A bushing 28 for a toolspindle 26 may be projected from the headstock by rotation of a hand-wheel 30. The bearing 110 is tiltably mounted on the crossslide through casings 66, 66a to which it is secured by bolts 112, the casings pivoting on the ends 56, 58 of a bearing-sleeve 54, Fig. 4, supported in an upstanding part 50 of the crossslide. The sectors 60, 60a, 64, 64a of which 60, 64 are toothed, also pivot on the ends 56, 58, sectors 60, 60a being secured by bolts 62, 62a to the cross-slide and formed with arcuate T-grooves 74, 74a for the heads of bolts 70, 70a carried by the sectors 64, 64a and around which the casing 66 is cut away at 82. Arcuate T-slots 88, 88a are also provided in the sectors 64, 64a to receive the heads of bolts 84, 84a carried by the casings 66, 66a. Tilting of the table about the bearing-sleeve 54 is effected by loosening the nuts on the bolts 70, 70a and tightening those on the bolts 84, 84a. A pinion 94, in bearings in the casings 66 and meshing with the toothed-sector 60, is then rotated through a worm-and-bevel-wheel drive 98, 96, 100, 102, 104, Fig. 5, operated by a crank-handle 108. The pinion 94 climbs up the sector 60 and can tilt the work-table into the position illustrated in Fig. 5. Further tilting, up to the position illustrated in Fig. 6, can be effected by releasing the bolts 84, 84a and tightening the bolts 70, 70a to clamp the sectors 60, 60a, 64, 64a together, the pinion then climbing up the sector 64. |
