PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for treating organic waste are provided to maximize the drying efficiency of the apparatus by drying targets based on waste heat from a heating chamber. CONSTITUTION: A method for treating organic waste includes the following: a thermal medium is heated in a heating chamber; the heated thermal medium is transferred to be mixed with organic waste which is introduced into a mixing chamber; the mixed product is transferred to the heating chamber to be pyrolyzed under high temperatures; the mixed product is transferred to a storing chamber before the mixed product is transferred to the heating chamber; and exhaust gases from the mixing chamber and the storing chamber are heat-exchanged.
