摘要 A variable transmission device comprises radially inner 70, 80 and outer races 100, 110 and planetary members 90 arranged in rolling contact with the inner 70, 80 and outer races 100, 110. A clamping force controller 60 is coupled to at least one inner 70, 80 and outer races 100, 110 and to an input shaft 30. The clamping force controller 60 comprising opposing surfaces operable to rotate relative to each other in response to a torque applied to the input shaft 30. At least one of the opposing surfaces being defined by a ramp having a non-linear lead profile, the relative rotation of the opposing surfaces causing a non-linear change in separation along an axis of the two parts of the inner 70, 80 and outer races 100, 110 to accommodate a radial displacement of the planetary members and to control clamping forces applied between said planetary members 90 and the inner 70, 80 and outer races 100, 110 proportionately to a torque applied to the input shaft 30 and different transmission ratios.
