发明名称 Improvements in or relating to method of coating fibrous glass and apparatus therefor
摘要 757,561. Coating glass fibres with metal. OWENS-CORNING FIBERGLAS CORPORATION. May 14, 1954 [May 28, 1953], No. 14212/54. Class 82(2). Glass fibres are made in the conventional way and are then continuously coated with molten zinc, zinc-aluminium alloy, or lead containing zinc, tin, antimony or aluminium, in molten state, or with copper by thermally decomposing the acetate applied to the fibres in a gelatine and water solution. The fibres 44 are drawn from a conventional apparatus 11 and are made to contact a power-driven roller 28 which dips into a bath of the molten metal or the gelatine solution. The applicator is mounted on members 17, 18 to slide into or out of contact with the fibres. A gathering wheel 45 and spooling means 46 are provided. Waxes, polyvinyl acetate compositions and rubbery compositions &c. may be applied to the coated fibres in known manner. The roller 28 may contain a central heating element and the bath of the molten metal is heated by an electric resistance heater in the refractory sides of the bath. A top may be provided to make the apparatus airtight and thus suitable for working in an inert or non-oxidising atmosphere e.g. nitrogen.
