A gas compressor 3 mounted on a ship 1 supplies air under pressure through a flexible pipe 2 to gas diffusers or atomizers 6 mounted on a carriage 4 towed by the ship along the bed of a lake, reservoir or watercourse. The travelling carriage 4 may be constructed as a float chamber provided with equipment similar to that in submarines so that it may be wholly or partly flooded; the carriage may thus be moved up and down in the water under controlled conditions. In Fig. 2 (not shown) the carriage is suspended near the bed of the lake or the like from a pontoon, towed by a ship on which the compressors are located. Alternatively the carriage may be suspended from the cable between the ship and the pontoon. In a further embodiment the compressor is mounted on the pontoon which is then towed by a tug. Instead of atomizers or diffusers, aerators or nozzles may be used, into which the gas is introduced and through which the water is forced to flow.</p> |
