PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for correcting a hot rolled steel sheet are provided to reduce the time for correction by open-driving a hot working leveller corresponding to ski-up of the tip of a steel sheet. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for correcting a hot rolled steel sheet comprises a ski-up information detecting unit which detects ski-up of the leading end of a steel sheet(S) entering an input side of a rolling leveller(101) and a driving control unit(120) which receives the ski-up information from the ski-up information detecting unit, raises an upper leveling roll(102R) before the leading end of the steel sheet enters, and lowers the upper leveling roll after entering of the leading end of the steel sheet.
