A scale for use in the sport of curling provides a visual gauge to determine the amount of curl in the lateral direction of curling stones thrown longitudinally along the sheet of ice during a curling match. The scale can include a lateral scale spanning laterally across the ice at either end of the playing surface and/or a longitudinal scale spanning longitudinally along a length of the ice. The scale may be physically set in the sheet of ice together with other markings forming the playing surface in the sport of curling. Alternatively when providing a video feed of a curling match, the position of the curling stones and a skip's broom relative to a lateral scale may be determined electronically and graphically represented on the video feed in real time.
