The tool has a body including a cylindrical cavity (20) for inserting and positioning an end of a sanitary pipe. A stop (26) defines a maximum insertion position of the pipe in the tool. A cutter (16) is removably mounted with respect to the body for machining a groove. A handlever (18) displaces the cutter from a withdrawal position till a position at which a blade (19) of the cutter defines a maximum depth of the groove, where the handlever is in the form of button. A spring (29) is arranged between the cutter or handlever and the body for pushing the cutter to its withdrawal position. An independent claim is also included for a method for coupling two sanitary pipe portions using a removable fixation ring.
