Disclosed is a barbeque control system (10) including a controller (20) and a switch (50) operatively connected to the controller (20). Heating of a hotplate (70) of a barbeque is enabled by the controller (20) when the controller (20) detects that the switch (50) is activated for a first time period. Heating of the hotplate (70) is disabled when the controller (20) detects that the switch (50) is activated for a second time period. The first time period is longer than the second time period.
