PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for connection management of a pico gateway in a mobile communication system are provided to perform efficient S1 connection and PeNB/HeNB management between an MME(Mobile Mobility Entity) and a PeNB/HeNB. CONSTITUTION: A controlling unit(750) receives an S1 connection request from a small base station. The controlling unit stores information in a message for the S1 connection request. The controlling unit searches for a representative base station of a virtual base station group. The controlling unit requests update of MME information to the MME in case the MME information is different from information included in a message for the S1 connection request.
