Discloses the use of a culture supernatant of Lactobacillus gasseri SBT2055 (FERM BP-I0953) for the manufacture of a composition for treating or preventing metabolic syndrome, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and diabetes. The composition may be in the form of, or is formulated for administration in, a food or beverage product. The food composition may affect secretion of the adiponectin peptide thus finding therapeutic application in treatment of adiponectin associated conditions.
