The tool (1) has a steel bar (2) that is to be placed radially on a steering wheel that includes a rim connected to a hub by a set of lower arms. A tightening extension (8) is guided in a guide tube (6) along an axis of a steering column. The tightening extension has a dent (10) that is adapted to the shape of a tightening element such as screw or nut. The bar has an angular locking unit (14) fitted on the arms of the steering wheel, and a handle (4) to maintain the bar. The tube, the locking unit and the handle of the bar are provided in succession from the center of the steering wheel. An independent claim is also included for a method for tightening a steering wheel.
