A process for liquefying a hydrocarbon gas is disclosed comprising the steps of: a) Pre-treating a hydrocarbon feed gas (60) to remove sour species and water. b) Providing a refrigeration zone (28) circulating a mixed refrigerant from a mixed refrigerant system (14) and an auxiliary refrigerant from an auxiliary refrigeration system (20). The mixed refrigerant system comprises: i) Compressing the mixed refrigerant in a compressor (12). ii) Passing the compressed mixed refrigerant through a first heat exchange pathway (40) in the refrigeration zone where the compressed mixed refrigerant is cooled and expanded to produce a mixed refrigerant coolant. iii) Passing the mixed refrigerant coolant through a second heat exchange pathway (42) in the refrigeration zone to produce a mixed refrigerant. iv) Re-circulating the mixed refrigerant to the compressor (12). c) Coupling the mixed refrigerant system and the auxiliary refrigeration system (20) so the auxiliary refrigeration system is driven, at least in part, by waste heat from the mixed refrigerant system. d) Cooling the pre-treated feed gas (32) by passing it through the refrigeration zone (28) and expanding the cooled feed gas (74) to produce a hydrocarbon liquid. A system is also disclosed for hydrocarbon gas liquefaction according to the above process. |
