Disclosed is an aqueous elastomer dispersion, articles produced from the elastomer dispersion and a compounded latex, comprising a dispersed phase comprising an elastomer and an accelerator, wherein said dispersed phase is formed by dissolving the elastomer and accelerator in a solvent system; and an aqueous phase. Also disclosed is a method of preparing the aqueous elastomer dispersion, comprising the steps of: preparing an elastomer/accelerator solution comprising an elastomer, an accelerator, and a solvent system; emulsifying the elastomer/accelerator solution to form an emulsion; concentrating the emulsion to form a concentrated emulsion; removing substantially all of the solvent system from the concentrated emulsion to form a substantially solvent-free dispersion; and optionally concentrating the substantially solvent-free dispersion.
