PURPOSE: An elevator system is provided to minimize an upper space of a hoistway by forming a receiving groove for receiving a large sized winch body in the upper part of an elevator car. CONSTITUTION: An elevator system comprises first and second main sheaves(142,147), a main rope(150), first and second balance weights(132,134), and an elevator car(120). The first and second main sheaves are installed in the upper part of a hoist to be spaced each other. The main rope is wound around the main sheaves. The first and second balance weights are respectively suspended from both ends of the main rope. The elevator car is suspended in the main rope.
