Disclosed herein are compounds of formula (I) which are modulators of cannabinoid receptor CB1 and which suppress the normal signalling activity of such receptors, wherein the variables shown in formula (I) are as defined in the specification. These compounds are suitable for the treatment of diseases or conditions which are mediated by CB1 receptor signalling activity, such as treatment of obesity and overweight, prevention of weigh gain, treatment of diseases and conditions directly or indirectly associated with obesity and overweight such as metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, metabolic dysfunctions in obese, overweight or normoweight individuals, metabolic diseases or disorders, cancers, liver diseases and other secondary diseases.
