An apparatus for delivering breathable air to a patient throughout the patient's respiratory cycle, the respiratory cycle including an inhalation phase and an exhalation phase, the apparatus comprising a blower having an electric motor 10 configured to rotate an impeller 12 within a volute 36, a patient interface 18, an air delivery conduit 16 arranged to deliver breathable air from the blower to the patient interface 18, at least one sensor adapted to provide a signal to detect the transition between the inhalation phase and the exhalation phase, a controller 14 to control the pressure of breathable air delivery to the patient interface 18 between a comfort pressure during at least a portion of the exhalation phase and a therapeutic pressure during at least a portion of the inhalation phase, and a synchrony means. The synchrony means will predict when the inhalation phase and/or the exhalation phase will occur based upon the signal determined from the sensor and will coordinate an adjustment in pressure between the comfort pressure and the therapeutic pressure to maintain synchrony between the blower and the patient's respiratory cycle
|
