A method for cleaning up the breech area of a sheep 6 by eliminating an attachment site for faecal matter and urine to reduce moisture build up and reduce the odds of blowfly strike and resultant maggot infestation comprises the steps of establishing a hair removal laser apparatus 4 so as to direct a laser beam from the apparatus 4 and at breech area skin of a sheep 6 during electrical operation of the apparatus 4, and directing the laser beam from the apparatus 4 and at the breech area skin to permanently prevent the growth of hair from the breech area skin with heating of the breech area skin to a maximum temperature that is less than a skin burning temperature.
