In accordance with an example embodiment of the present invention, there is provided a method, including receiving data for transmission over a physical link, acquiring information about the data transmission, setting physical layer link adaptation parameters for the transmission based on the acquired information, wherein the setting includes adjusting the physical layer link adaptation parameters separately for transmission in an application data transfer direction and an application feedback direction.
