The invention relates to a method for the separation of metal ions that are divalent or higher from strong acids or highly acidic media, said method being used in the production of high-purity silicon dioxide. The invention further relates to the use of specific ion exchangers for carrying out the method according to the invention and to the high-purity silicon dioxides thereby obtained.
