A method for assigning an IP address to a relay device for relaying a wireless interface between a wireless terminal and a base station for providing a cellular phone service, the relay device being capable of terminating a control signals from the base station and the wireless terminal. The method includes: the base station assigning a plurality of IP addresses to a first relay device placed under the control of the base station; and the first relay device assigning, to a second relay device placed under the control of the first relay device, at least one of the IP addresses assigned by the base station.
