<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly carry out face selection processing when selecting a desired face according to a face detection result and applying image processing to the face. <P>SOLUTION: When a drawing line is drawn on a screen with an image corresponding to image data displayed thereon using a pointing device 211, if the drawing line does not form a closed curve, a CPU 201 sets a split point on the drawing line to form a split detection region defined by a split line connecting a starting point of the drawing line and the split point and the drawing line.
